Diagnostic Assessment

A neuropsychological assessment may be requested to clarify presence of a brain disorder (click here for a list of common conditions affecting brain functions). The assessment would assist the client with clarification of their cognitive strengths and weaknesses, provide treatment recommendations and support management strategies.

Medico-Legal Assessment

A medico-legal assessment is often requested by lawyers or judges to clarify the presence of an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and the impact of such on the offending behaviour. Medico-legal assessment may be also requested to determine an individual fitness to stand for trial or as a witness.

Capacity Assessment

An assessment of capacity is requested to clarify if a person with a potential brain disorder has the capacity to make informed decisions about their lifestyle, medical or financial matters. For example, an assessment is requested for a guardianship or administration order. In some cases insurance companies (e.g., TAC or Work Safe) may request an assessment to determine employment capacity (now or in the future) or to describe the extent of the injury affecting the individual in the longer term.

Neurobehavioural Assessment

Behavioural changes can be significant after a brain injury. Such changes may affect the person's ability to function or engage with others. Tailored interventions that are aimed at behaviour modifications and cognitive rehabilitation assist the client and their carers to develop practical strategies and structured routines that can be monitored over time.
